The Uglies past that stage

Question
Alright.  I bought my Pom last Nov (2005) and he was 7wks when I got him.  He had this beautiful coat that looked very full, especially around the face.

Well, his hair needed to be trimmed a little, and I started to take him to the groomers but one of my friends told me that our other friend trimmed her own dogs hair.  So I thought I could too!

December 2005 marked disaster.  I ended up cutting EVERYTHING off from face to feet.  He was super ugly when I finished...what was I thinking?! He couldn't even make his photo shoot with Santa!

So I thought and decided that it would...just, GROW BACK eventually.  And it did....to a degree.  His tail and back end, are the best looking part now instead of his face.  All the hair around the face NEVER grew back to how it was and its now OCTOBER 2006.

What did I do to him?!  Did I shock his roots or something?  Now he's shedding like crazy and growing a winter coat...do u think it just took a year for his hair to regrow due to his winter coat?  Could it be that I literally SHAVED his hair off when it was supposed to have been fully grown and the following months was his summer stage?

PLEASE HELP!1

Answer
I would venture to guess you did nothing permanent. :o) Your guy is going through his one year blow right at the time you would be wanting him to grow coat.  He was also going through the "uglies" when you wanted him to grow coat so now that he is past the 1 yr mark you should see a significant growth in coat.
There is nothing you can do to make hair grow... ask all the balding men in America... they would LOVE the answer to that! :oP
Seriously, it just takes time.  By 3 they are usually FULL of coat... as long as they have the genetics to back that up.

Best of luck and mayeb you should leave the clipping to the experts... OR buy some of the books and videoa on grooming Poms and try that.
