Open coat ? Full size at what age?

Question
What does it means when a pomeranian has an "open coat"? I have came across this a few times in this Q&A forum regaurding to types of pomeranian coats. But I was curious what this is described as. How can you tell if your pom has an open coat?
Also I would like to know what is the age certain that your pomeranian is at his full size. My 8 month old pomeranian is still quite small and not really growing as much as he did in his 4-5 month of development so I am curious will he just be tiny or can he suprise me in size?

Answer
Open coat is also referred to as a flat coat.  It is when there is not an abundance of undercoat to fluff up the hair.  It is not a type of Pom coat as in there are 2 acceptable types-it is an improper coat for a Pom.  If the coat handgs down flat like a pappion-that is an open coat.  Poms are an arctic breed and should have a full double coat-one soft downy coat and a thicker harsh outer coat.

Your 8 month old is pretty much grown.  He may fill out some.  Maybe gain an inch or so and a pound or so.  Most breeders will weigh them at 8 weeks and guess that they will triple thier weight or weigh at 12 weeks and guess they will double their weight. :) His growth will be slowing considerably.  SOME lines (parents grandaperents) pass on the genes to keep growing through adolesence which is referred to as a "throw back" (due to the throw back to the old arctic dogs who were much bigger) but that is more common in back yard breeders or pet stores or puppy mills where they do not take as close consideration of the pedigree while breeding.
