Question
I have a pommeranian who is 1yr old, and I was wondering, shouldn't she have already started her menstration? I also would like to no when is a good time to breed her?
Also, is it okay to just give her tablefood, because I have tried at least 10 different brands of food and she only likes it for a week or so, then she won't eat. She has lost weight, and I am worried about her.
Thank you

Answer
A first heat can come anywhere between 6-18 months old.

Table scraps can make her fat or she could have an allergic reaction or choke.  Be very mindful and careful of what you feed.  A treat once in a while is ok but should not be regular diet.  Losing weight may be a health problem and she should be seen by a vet.

Is she a good representative of her breed?

Make sure you know your dog is healthy enough to breed before you consider breeding her.  Make sure you know her family history so that you are not perpetuating a genetic problem that can kill her puppies or cause a lot of vet bills for new owners.  Make sure the male you breed to is healthy and comes from a line of helathy dogs.  Not all dogs are perfect.  What health risks do these 2 dogs bring to each other?

Make sure you have her vet checked and have the male vet checked.  Make sure she can deliver without a C section. And can afford a section if one is needed. Did her dam free whelp? Did her grand dam free whelp?

Is she AKC registered? Is the sire? http://www.dfwdachshund.com/rescue/registries.shtml

Best of luck.
