Question
HI
I love my pom and feel like I am getting the run around from her
vet.  I am $600 in deep with this vet with NO answers.  She has
spots of baldness all on her back side closer to her tail.  There
are about 6 and they are dry looking and form dandruff.  The vet
has tested for mites and ring worm..nothing has come up...there
have been no shifts in weight for thyroid problems.  SHe has
been on 2 different antibiotics to help clear this up..none have
helped and I have tried some Benedryl.  She seems to be itchy
but not on these spots..just around her neck area and her coat is
not what is used to be..not fluffy and beautiful anymore...I
thought that may be due to the fact that I have been getting her
shaved now  for a few years and finally I was told not to do that
to poms.  Anyway I have been researching on my own b/c I feel
like I am getting no answers from my vet and I am worried about
her..I also thought maybe a food allergy..whon knows..but I want
her to be happy...any advice?

Answer
A couple of things come to mind.  Try to feed her a different dog food, something you find in the pet store
for pets with allergies.  Even tho, most vet's can't find
mites...I would try to get a product called Revolution and
use it for a spot on for once a month treatment.  Use it for two months and see if this helps.  The dandruff makes
me think of mites.  You would be surprised how hard these
pests are to find and how easy it is for a dog to pick them up.

Check the pet store for Salmon oil and add that to her dog food.

It will take several months before you will see improvement.
