Question
I HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD POMERANIAN AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO FEED HIM. AT FIRST HE ATE DOG FOOD AND HE DIDN'T LIKE IT TO MUCH SO WE FED HIM A LITTLE BIT OF REGULAR FOOD THAT WE ATE. SO HE GOT USED TO EATING HUMAN FOOD THAT NOW HE WON'T EVEN EAT REGULAR DOG FOOD. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO? I'VE TRIED FEEDING HIM DIFFERENT BRANDS OF DOG FOOD AND HE DIDN'T LIKE EITHER ONE. I'M STARTING TO GET A WORRIED BECAUSE I BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF FEEDING HIM HUMAN FOOD IS BAD FOR AND REALLY DON'T WNAT HIM TO GET SICK. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD EMAIL ME BACK.
THANK YOU,

Answer
Hi Natalie,

Here are some previous responses I wrote which will help you:

1st Response:
There are some higher quality dog foods (kibble and canned) such as Wellness, Canidae, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Soul, etc.  Also, there are dehydrated dog foods--The Honest Kithen, Sojourners, Dr. Harvey's Canine Health, etc.  All of these foods are human grade.  But
you are right, fresh is best, especially hormone and antibiotic free meats and organic fruits and veggies.  If you decide to prepare a homemade diet it's important that you find recipes that provides complete nutrition.
Some pet owners do feed their dogs raw meat, but I am not totally convinced that it's the best thing to do.  I prefer to feed my dog cooked meat. An excellent book that I enjoyed and learned a lot from is:  "Dr. Pitcairn's
Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats".  He covers nutrition, immunizations, etc.  You can get it at the library.

2nd Response:
I have feed my pom Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Spot's Stew, Chicken Soup for the Soul, PetGuard, Wellness, Canidae, NRG Canine Blend and Neura Meats. I may get him Dr. Havery's, The Honest Kitchen, Monzie's Organic
Muesli, Noah's Kindom, Happy dog, or Sojourner Farms next. These are human grade dehydrated foods.  With most of them you must add fresh meat and veggies.  I also feed my dog fresh food: chicken, beef, fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, brown rice, grains, cheese, veggies, and fruit. I never
feed him junk food like hot dogs, anything with added sugar, etc.  Variety is important and I recommend a human grade dog food.  Dehydrated foods and canned foods are better than kibble.  Fresh food is the best.

Best Regards,
Carrie
