low thyroid

Question
My 5 year old pom was diagnosed with very low thyroid and after 3 months of medicine his levels are back to normal. His hair however, has not grown back yet. Will it come back and if so how long does it take? Also how are low thyroid and black skin connected if at all.

It takes awhile for the thyroid to work and sometimes from
what I have read a dog never gets their coat back.  All
the articles say black skin disease and low thyroid go hand in hand.  They also say once a male has been neutered
that their coat will come back.
