Question
My mother was given a pomeranian but she isn't able to care for him anymore. He pees everywhere. I have been trying to crate train him but he seems to be angry and has starting pooping on my bed and in the bedrooms on the carpet. When I try to groom him he growls and has nipped at me a couple of times. He barks if I put him outside on a tether leash. When I let him run around he pees on the floor and on the appliances. I really want to take very good care of him but I'm not sure how to correct these problems. He can be very affectionate. To tell you the truth I think a previous owner may have hurt him.

Answer
Check out the archives because there have been many resuced Poms with social issues that you are having to deal with.

Bless you for trying.

There may be some things you could do differently to help with his behavior problems.  First he needs regular vigorous excercise, daily.  Then he will need precise, calm correction and discipline when he misbehaves and after that you can give affection.  I would HIGHLY recomend the show and book The Dog Whisperer. He gives GREAT advice on how to teach your dog that YOU are the pack leader and not him and that he has to listen to YOU.  It may be a great idea for you to go to obedience classes too.  You will find that he will become a much better compnaion if you do that.

Best of luck with him.
