itching,bathing

i have pom,he is the cutest dog ever,but he has been itching on the left side of his back closed to his tail,he's been biting tha area so bad that he even runs out of breath, oh and by the way that area is all red no blood just red,i already check it and i don't see nothing wrong but hi continues to bite so i wonder is you know whats wrong with him.And my other question is how safe is to bathe him with human shampoo and do i have to blow dry his hair every time i bathe him. thanks so much for helping me out.

You need to take your Pom in to the vet to check for dandruff mites or fleas-just becuase you don't see them doesn't mean they are not there, after all the female fleas only bite when they are about to lay eggs.  Your pup may be allergic to either pest or to a type of food.  Only your vet will be able to diagnos this.
