walk on leash

Question
I recently got a 14-month old Pom Pom. I want to exercise him a bit by walking him. He has no problem wearing a collar now, however he refuse to walk on the leash. Without the leash, he will walk around a bit, although not very active. But whenever I put the leash on, he will stand or sit and refuse to move, even if I pull the leash. (It seems that he's eager to go home and don't want to stay outside because when he saw me open the door he will rush inside.) How come he won't walk with the leash attached? How can I train him to walk on a leash?

Answer
First of all I would put him in a harness rather than a collar as it is safer for the Pom.  Secondly, get some
cheese (small pieces) and reward him each time he
does walk for you.

It will take some time and encouragement, but he will
walk.  Also attach the lead to his harness and let him
loose with it in on in a fenced area and make sure he
doesn't chew it.  After awhile he will get use to the
lead.
