CHARACTER AND BREEDING AGE LIMIT

IS IT TRUE THAT MOST POMS ARE YAPPY OR MAINLY JUST THE BOYS NOT SO MUCH THE GIRLS? AND IS 4 YRS OLD TOO OLD TO BREED A 7LB POM FEMALE? IT WOULD BE HER FIRST LITTER. THANKS

Hi Kristin,

Thanks for writing. An untrained or poorly bred male or female pom can be yappy.  I would not bred your female and here's why:  There are MILLIONS of dogs and puppies that are put to death every year in animal shelters. There is not enough homes for all of them and some of them have health and behavior problems.  A good breeder breeds to improve the breed, i.e. a breeder who usually shows dogs. Poms are very overbred.  There are many hyper, yappy, unhealthy poms with behavior problems that barely resemble the bred.
