Question
Hi. Two weeks ago my parents brought home two puppies. They are from the same litter. They are 3/4 pomeranian and 1/4 jack russell terrier, so they look just like poms, but have floppy ears. Well, for the past week I've noticed that one of the puppies has been getting more and more vertical ears. At first they were completely floppy (from the terrier in him) but now his ears are completely vertical, whereas the other puppy, his brother, has not changed at all. I am curious as to why this would happen. And how. Thank you for your reply.

Answer
Depending on the age, it sounds like the cartiladge is just now hardening.  It is Normal.  But, since they are mixes, I cannot be sure what part the terrier is playing in the formation of the ears.  When pups are young the cartiladge is still malable.
Have fun with them-wow, what a combo.  Talk about energy!
