Getting another Pomeranian!

Question
Hi, Trish

I have a very boyish, roudy 11 mo old black and white pom named Sam. He's my first pom (only dog)and he's also quite large for a pom, 13 pounds. Any way, I've noticed how much joy he gets out of socializing with other dogs and that he continually tries to play with the cats, much to their annoyance! Therefore I was wondering if it might be time to get him a playmate and if so do you recommend another pom and if so, younger, female...? Any advice on whether he really is looking for a companion, if it would make HIM happy or if he's just still a puppy wanting all the attention and so on. I'd be willing to get another dog/puppy if you feel it would benefit Sam and give him someone to romp with. However if poms don't necessary NEED a doggie sister or brother, could you let me know. I just would like to ease my mind and make a decision. I keep going back and forth, torn between the two choices and their outcomes. Thanks! Any advice would help! I don't want him to be jealous of another dog yet I hate to think of him being bored or even worse, lonely while I'm gone during the day at work and school. Thanks again for your help!

Answer
At that age he is still very much a pup. :-)  I am sure he would LOVE a companion(dogs are pack animals) but will be content with just you if he is all you want to have.  A buddy would keep him occupied while you are away.  Mine love each other and play all day long.  They love having the companionship.  Just like kids, though.  They adjust to you.  If you have another they will love it-if you don't they will love and adore you. :-)
Not much help, I know.  But it may ease your mind to know you are not depriving him by keeping him an only pup.
I have to tell you though... Poms are a collectors item... you can't have just one!
