Question
I have to dissagree with one of your answers. ContKC and AKC have nothing to do with how a dog is bred.  It may be easier to fool the CKC and breed non-purbred dogs and pass them off as purebred, but it is ultimately the breeder who decideds how well he breeds and takes care of his dogs. No, it wasn't right to fool that lady into believing she was buying an AKC dog and selling her CKC, but there are non-reputable AKC breeders out there, too. Take it from me-I am a mostly CKC breeder. My reasons are simply because it is not as much of a hassel, I cannot show now though would like to one day, and I know im breeding 100% pure-bred top quality Poms that meet the AKC standard ( i found the CKCs to be too 'loose' in what it allowed, icluding a weight standard uo to 11Lbs instead of 7Lbs) as closly as I can manage, and my top priority above all else in temperment and health. After all, it doesn't matter if you dog meets its standard perfectly if it is horribly mean or too ill to make it past 4 years old, when it should live well into its teens. I don't require a personal response, but please let it be known that CKC dogs can be very well bred and to base your purchase choice on the BREEDER not the REGISTRY.

Answer
You do not have to agree with me.  I respect that everyone is entitled to their opinions.  My response is mine.
The point was that this family purchased the dog as an $1800 AKC show prospect... that is not what they got.  ContKC registered dogs cannot be shown in AKC santioned matches.  Only AKC registered dogs can.
It is also my opinion that a person looking to buy a pet should only do so from reputable breeders who show their dogs.  This does not mean ALL show breeders are reputable.  I know there are lots who are not.  A reputable show breeder researches the dogs in their pedigrees to eliminate-to the best of their ability-genetic conditions that hinder the pups they are producing because they are breeding for themselves and don't want those problems in what they are showing.  This is also not saying that there are no problems in show breeders puppies-they all have the potential of having problems simply becasue issues in the breed exist.  None the less, I feel a buyer will have a better chance at getting a quality dog from a reputable show breeder than from someone who is just breeding 2 Poms without knowing where they are from and from what lines.
Best of luck to you.
