Puppys fighting

Question
Hi! I have another question about  my pom, wookie.  We have another puppy, a 4 month old yorkie, and the two of them fight pretty much every time they are both in the vacinity of the other.  Wookie crys a lot when the other puppy bites him, but then i pick him up to get him out of harms way, and he crys to get back down and play. Also, wookie growls when they are playing and the other puppy rarly growls at him.  When wookie crys he sometimes goes under the couch, but the problem is that a lot of the time he is instigating the fight/play. Is this normal?  I know that poms are fragile but can he really be getting hurt if he wants to get right back in the action after i pick him up?  And what can i do to ease this situation so we can all live together peacefully?

PS. Wookie is 8 weeks old

Answer
I would not let them be together when you are not around, for sure.  And I think I would scold if the play gets too rough.  Wookie may be trying to play or show some dominance over your other dog and if the yorkie doesn't like it he will try to boss Wookie in turn.  They will get better in time, I would suspect.  Just make sure you keep a close eye on them and know that at 8 weeks, Wookie is still very much a baby and is learning the appropriate behavior for his pack-your family.  So it is natural for the older of them to be bossy to him and you as the alpha need to boss them both. :)
Yes, he can be hurt and still want to get right into the action.  He is probably seeing how far he can push the other dog.  Testing his bounderies.
Patience is the best thing.  Keep a close eye on them-scold when they get out of hand and wait for the puppy stage to pass.
Best of luck!
