Question
what are the different types of pomeranions? also i live on vancouver island and i was wondering if you new of any breeders with puppies for sale?

Answer
There are three catogories for Poms; pet, breeding and show, and then there are sub catagories of those 3.  Such as-color, sex, face type and size for starters.

Pet poms are purebred poms that don't fall within the guidelines of the standard and should not be bred.  They are often bigger and have faults the breeder finds important enough to not be procreated and are sold on limited AKC reistration with spay/neuter contract.

Breeding quality means they are a good representation of thier breed and the breeder would agree to sell this pup with full AKC registration and breeding rights, to the right home.  They may have faults but with carefull thought as to the right mate then these faults may be overcome.

Then there are those special ones considered show quality-a good breeder strives for these.  These are extra ordinary and are great reprisentatives of thier breed standard.  These are more expensive and often a breeder will insist this type go to a home that is willing to show this pup to the best of its ability.

Sub catagories are based on personal taste.  Some people like a more pointed face, others like a shorter muzzle-these are fox and bear faces.  There is also an extreme bear face referred to as babydoll face.
Poms come in a rainbow of colors! :-) A short list is-red and orange (the most common colors) cream (from vanilla to nearly white), blue (a steel gray color), choc (like a choc lab), lavender (a mix of choc and blue), brindle (marked like a pit bull or great dane), merle (like an australian shep), white (often confused with pale cream), black with or without sabling (any black hairs, on an otherwise non black, solid color), ... then there are the "and tans"; black and tan, blue and tan, choc and tan...(markings like a dobie or rottie).
Anything other than orange, red is considered exotic and may cost more based on the quality, sex and demand.

I have a few pups available to the right homes and my links page has several good breeders listed.  You can see pedigrees and pictures on my site at www.geminipoms.com
