Breed Specific food for my Pomeranian

Question
I am overwhelmed with all of the information that needs to be weeded through in order to figure out the best diet to feed my Pom. It makes sense to me that each breed has different nutritional needs and I understand the benefits of fresh food over commercial premade kibble. However, my lifestyle is such that I am not quite ready to make that huge change yet and my goal here is to figure out the best alternative retail option to purchase for her until I can make the full transition to preparing fresh food for her. Can you suggest any that are specifically for young Pomeranians? Please & Thanks!

Answer
Hi Michelle,

I understand how you feel!  I, too, have been overwhelmed in the past with trying to figure out the best diet for my pom.  I just recently started preparing a homemade diet.  I freeze about two weeks worth at a time.  I can't imagine preparing food for large dogs.  The amount I make would be one meal for my folk's two Rottweilers!  An excellent book on nutrition is:  "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats".

Feed your pom human grade foods such as:  Petguard, Wellness, Innova, California Natural, or Canidae. (Canned is better than kibble.)  Fresh of course, is the best.  Also, you can add fresh foods like beef, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, yogurt (without added sugar), cheese, brown rice, oatmeal, eggs, veggies, fruit, etc. (I never feed my pom junk food or anything with refined processed sugar.)

Let me know if you need more help.

Best Regards,
Carrie
