Playing

Question
I know this may sound a little strange, but my dogs don't play. They have no interest in toys, balls, or even a frisbee farther than walking over to them and sniffing them once before comming back. Is there any way i can spark their interest in these things? Oh i have two AKC Poms. Sonic and Mitzie. Thank you.

Hi David,

It's not strange that they don't play.  Some dogs don't and some never learn how to play.  I don't know if you can ever get them interested in playing fetch, but there is other things they may like.  I would start by trying things with treats.  For example, give them a kong stuffed with a dog biscuit, cheese or peanut butter.  Close them off in a room and hide their dinner all over the house.  (Hard kibble of course!)  Then let them out of the room and tell them to, "Find the treats!"  My dog loves this game.  He starts getting very excited as soon as I close him in a room.  He also loves to play tug of war with soft fleece toys.  Lamb wool (fleece) is his favorite soft toy.
