Getting another pom?

Question
First off, thanks for any advice you can give.  I currently have a seven year old fixed male pom.  He was a rescue dog that I got when he was just a year and a half old.  I am thinking about getting another  pom.  Should I look for a male or a female?  Also what age should I look for: puppy or young adult?  I will be introducing my pom to any possible new poms but is there anything else I can do to help the transition to having two dogs instead of one?  Thanks.

Answer
I don't think it really matters as I have a neutered male
with several older females.  I think probably females
would get along better with him as males tend to be
territorial.

You might keep you new Pom in an exercise pen until your
other dog can get use to him by smelling him through the
pen.
