QuestionMy 5 year old pom has had a short lion-type cut during the summer months for the first three years of her life. Sometimes I had to trim it 2-3 times during that season to keep her cool. It always grew in as heavily as before.
The last time I cut it, two years ago, I read an article stating that if it were cut too short, there could be a problem with it growing back. Well, it seems that has happened - alepecia - or something related to it has caused large symmetrical areas to resist growth, and most of the full fur she has grown is the undercoat fur, not the long feathered outer coat.
Have you any suggestions to get her hair to grow? I have seen two vets for other things and neither had any ideas. Thank you.
AnswerAlopecia X has nothing to do with cutting the hair and everything to do with genetics.

Could it be parasites?

You can try adding salomon oil to the dog food or another form of omega 3 fatty acids. You can use a dandruf type shampoo or tar based. That might help.
Best of luck.
