female pomeranian behavior

Question
My friend has a female and male pomeranian both 9 months old.  The female pomeranian has become hyper suddenly which lasts maybe a half a day.  She's done this twice within the last few weeks.  She becomes so hyper that she won't eat or drink or play with the other dog which she usually does.  We can't get her to calm down and she  is constantly jumping up at us.  I'll  pick her up and try to calm her - her heart is going a mile a minute - but she's so hyped up that she  soon jumps out of my arms. I'm not sure this part is related but  I noticed she was kinda limping  and draging her back leg but we checked her out for possible injury and she was fine. She didn't seem to be in pain. She only did this a little while and then reverted back to jumping around and never dragged her leg again.  Her hyperness went on both times for about 3/4 of the day and then she reverted back to her old self.  We really don't know what's going on. Any possible ideas?
Thanks, Claudia

Answer
I am not sure I know that anything IS wrong with her.  At that age... she is a teenager.  She sounds like she is just going "a little crazy" for fun.  Letting loose.  *shrug* not real sure.  I have some that get so excited that they play hard and "butt-tuck" run where their tail goes between their legs and they run around "hells-bells" till they get out the excitement in their system.  There is nothing that needs calming in that case.  And the limping may be an injury they sustain while all amped up.  It isn't a concern unless the limping doesn't go away or they seem to be in a lot of pain.  That needs to be seen by a vet.  They are prone to breaking a leg (had that happen to one of mine) while they are running around.

You can also suggest to them that if it bothers them that they can crate her till she settles down and only let her out to eat/drink/go potty and if not settled then back in the crate she goes.  But it sounds harmless.
Good luck to them with her.
