For me it is the oppisite. i was wondering if you can email me in your spare time to tell me about the wonders of a dog. my favorite kind of dog i want is a pomeranian. Please tell me about the breed because i would really like to get one when i grow up.
i also have a question before i go. where can i find a place to buy a pomeranian in san francisco? Thank you.
AnswerHi Lucy,
Poms are wonderful little dogs and I think you would be very happy with one. They are very small though, and you have to be careful with them. I never let my pom go outside by himself and I keep a close eye on him when we are outside. They love and need to be with you so it's important to spend lots of time with them. They are a clean dog. They don't have a doggie smell. They don't drool. They don't make a mess when they eat or drink. If you get one with the correct coat (looks like a puffball), they hardly shed at all. The ones with the soft flat silkier coats shed more.
Poms should be bathed about once a month and have to be brushed several times a week. Some owners take their poms to a groomer once a month. Some poms can be difficult to housebreak. It will be a lot easier if you have them neutered/spayed. Also, you must be consistant and have a plan! Poms are not outdoor dogs. They are bred to be companions and want/need to be with you. They are not a good dog to get if you work or are away for long hours (over 8-9).
Poms are loyal, happy, beautiful, and usually get along well with other pets. They are excellent companions. They are a very intelligent breed and they want to please, but they can be a little stubborn at times.
Poms are usually friendly, yet somewhat reserved with strangers. Socialization, as well as good breeding are important if you want a dog with a sound temperment. If you want a dog who likes people, make sure he gets lots of people contact when he is a puppy.

You can learn about poms on the internet. Also, you can go to the library and get books on pomeranians. It's important to do a little research if you want to get a dog that is healthy, typey, and has a sound temperment. It's extremely important that find a reputable show breeder. I don't know any breeders personally in the San Francisco area. You can find a good breeder in your area by attending local dog shows. (That's how I found my breeder.) You could also check dog magazines, or the internet. Knowing what a dog is suppose to look and act like will help you recognize a quality puppy/dog and the good breeders, the not so good breeders, and the downright horrible breeders. Never by a puppy from a pet store. Also, the newpaper is filled with backyard breeders and puppy mills. Once in a while, will you find a good breeder in the paper.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Best Regards,
Carrie
