Alopecia in poms

Question
My Abby is 5 years old, 2.5 lbs.  She seems so very uncomfortable in the summer, panting miserably - much more so than my other pom - so we have cut back her coat for her first three years.  Sometimes we had to cut it 2 or three times to keep it short because it grew so quickly.  The problem came about after her last cut, 2 yrs. ago when we found she did not regain her beautifully full coat.

I now find out that she could have alopecia or a thyroid or a hormone imbalance and will consult a specialty vet concerning this problem in the fall when it gets cooler.   Have you ever heard of alopecia going away or is it a permanent condition?

We love her no matter what her coat looks like, but would love to see her beautiful fur once again.  Any suggestions?

Answer
You will need to have your vet check for thyroid and other
problems concerning her coat loss.  Usually, Poms with
Alopecia do not get their coats back.

You might also have the vet to check for the dandruff mite.
It is another problem that causes a dog to lose coat.
