Question
Our Pom is about 4 years old. When-ever some-one comes over, he barks and hides in the cornor and he wont go to them when they call him. That is so annoying, I have never known of a dog to do that. How can we make him be more of a people person? Also, when we walk up to him to pick him up, its like he gets scared and he pees all over the place. What can we do about that?
Thank-you

Answer
It sounds like your Pom wasn't socialized as a pup.  It will take you a while to get over that and the peeing is submissive urination where your Pom is peeing as a sign of telling you "I know you are in charge, I know you are in acharge!" Never scold or it will get worse since your dog is trying to tell you that you are in charge and then it gets scolded so it thinks it didn't tell you enough so it will do it more.  You will have to act like it is no big deal and as best you can try to let your dog know that it can be a bit more in charge-when you play try to lay on the ground and roll on your back which is a submissive move.  Ignore the peeing in submission.
You will have to take your Pom everywhere you can and carefully introduce your Pom to everyone you can.  Give them treats to give to your dog.  You can also have bags of treats all over the house and when someone comes over get that person to give treats to your dog.  Give that dog treat swhenever you walk in the door so he starts to think whenever someone walks in the house they are going to give him treats. :)
It takes a lot of persistance and patience on your end.
Best of luck!
