Female shedding

Question
Sheri,

I have a female Pom, one year old.  She has long cream-colored hair, not the fluffy kind but the long hair.

I have her groomed once a week.  She sheds so badly that I vaccuum every morning before I go to work.  When we hold her, we are covered in hair. This never stops.

I have read in some of the pet-supply books about a product called "Shed-Stop".  Please help me with this.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello!  Your situation does not sound normal.  The only reason your Pom should be shedding that bad is if she is going through her "normal" shed, and if that's the case, there isn't really anything you can do.  Poms will shed A LOT when they go through this, but it will stop after a month or so, and their coat will come back.  My Pom goes through it also, and it is BAD.  Fur is EVERYWHERE!  It's normal though.  However, if your Pom has been going through this for a while, you may need to have her checked out by a vet for skin disorders.

As for the Shed-Stop, I wouldn't reccomend it.  I've never heard of it, but it doesn't sound like something I would use.  If your Pom is going through her shed, it's healthy.  I know it's a mess, but that comes with owning a Pom.  Other than that, she needs to see a vet.

Let me know how it turns out, or what you think.

Sheri
