Question
Hi Trish,

My little Tonka is one year old now, and she's still messing #1 and #2 in the house. She usually hides her poop by going behind the couch and behind the table. But her urine she does all over the place but only in one room, in one large area. A room none of the family usually goes in. Today, she pooped in front of me. And not in the room she usually goes in. I don't know what to do about it, she's making my house smell and she's damaging my rugs. Please help me, I don't want to get rid of her, I want her to learn. Also, she does have a crate, much bigger than what she needs, but she doesn't poop or anything in it. Please please help me.

P.S. Tonka is not fixed yet either.
Also, if possible, could you E-mail me your response as well, I don't know if I'd be able to  find this link again. TroubleProneX@aol.com
Thank you

Answer
It takes a lot of patients and willingness to follow through to get a dog to realize that the out of doors is the place to piddle and poo.  Another thing you might not know is that bitches will mark.  Not just dogs.
A few things you can try is-
1) soon as you come in from outside, turn right around and go back out.  Sometimes we bring them in when they didn't know they were coming in and they need to go once inside.
2) take the poo and put it where you want her to go.  Outside.  She will smell it out there and see it out there and should feel inclined to go in the same place.
3) don't let her have access to the entire house when you can't watch her.  Only let her out of her kennel when she can be supervised till she gets it.
4) Scold only when you catch her.  And PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE when you see her go outside.
Hope something here works for you.
If all else fails try bitches britches when she is in the house.  Also, be sure to use special cleaners that remove the urine and feces smell from the carpet.  Pick that up from your local vacuum store.
