Question
I received a pom as a gift and was told he would not get any bigger than 10-12 lbs. Well he is a healthy 19lbs and makes most poms look like midgets. He is the best companion I have ever had and gets along fabulous with my cats and larger dogs. I have been told that because he is CKC is the reason he is larger than most poms is this true and are solid black poms hard to find?

Answer
Hi Jean,
You do have a big boy but it sounds like he is a super nice dog for you.  The fact that he is registered with CKC has nothing to do with his size.  I have ckc registered poms that are 3 lbs fully grown.  AKC, CKC, UKC, APRI and others are clubs - AKC still being the kennel club with the most prestigue, CKC is growing fast and expanding the shows and trials that they offer.  Many people have switched to CKC due to the ever growing cost of registration.  Anyway - it is true that you don't see a bunch of solid black poms these days.  There are some breeders who raise them exclusivly just as some breeders only breed whites or only parti's.  I am sure your dog is delightful - e sounds like he has a great personality.

Regards,
Brandie
