Pomeranian Training Classes

Question
I just adopted the sweetest poms, they just turned 8 weeks old last week.  I know it is good to get puppies into training classes early, but they are so tiny I don't want them to get hurt!  What is a good age to get pomeranians into training classes?  Also, they have puppy socialization classes but I am again afraid of them being so small compared to the other dogs.  What is your advise on when to start these?  Also, how do I go about finding Pom clubs in my area?

Answer
8 weeks is too young to take to class.  First off, you do not want to expose them to any place other dogs have been until they have had all their vacinations.  They could contract one of the common dog diseases or viruses and die.  Make sure they have had all their shots before you take them out.
Secondly, they are too immature.  Socialize them by taking them everywhere you can (make sure you carry them and take along some hand sanitizer for those who want to handle them).  Give them lots of chances to try new things (lay them on their back and then right them and praise; cover them with a towel for a few seconds, uncover and praise; make loud noises, calm them and then praise-till you think they are less fearful of new things and that they are more confident.
Lastly, a great time to start classes is when they are about 4 months old.  And make sure you find a class with other small dogs.  And make sure that your pups are safe.  Sight hounds may find your puppies the perfect "game".
Call around.  Some pet stores offer classes after hours.  Check with your local breed club, they may also know of some good terachers and fun classes.
Good luck with them! :-) And have fun!
