Question
hello i have a dachshund 3 as a matter of fact but the one i need help with is almost 2 years old and no matter how many times or how often or how long you leave her outside when she comes in she poops in my house. also she pees in her crate, now if i take her blanket out she won't pee but if i give her one she pees on it, i switched their diet to science diet secsitive stomach and she does well with the vomiting but still has problems with the bathroom do you have any suggestions to get this under control.

Answer
Have you had her checked at the vet to make sure she does not have any physical reasons such as a UTI?  Different things work for different dogs but you might try puppy pads.  I have a fairly new dachshund who is about 2 and he is terrible about going out - he is just now getting used to the leash walk and does the peepee but he will not do the poop unless we walk and walk and walk and walk.  But he will come in and use the puppy pads if he needs to.  Lots of praise, maybe some training treats when she does go outside.  Try walking her on a leash and not just letting her run around.  She must associate peeing with blanket.  Try putting a blanket on the floor for her to lay on and tell her firmly NO if she starts to pee and take her out immediately.  Take the blanket up.  You want to try to give other, happier associations with the blanket - like chewing a favorite treat and then take it up.  You need to be creative - try putting the puppy pad in the cage rather than a blanket and maybe she will associate peeing on that.  Then have some out in the house for her to use.  Praise her for using it and then get the pads moved to the door and hopefully outside.  Lots of praise, treats, happy times.  Then she will think she is pleasing you and take her for long walks.  How often is she crated?  If it is for long periods, she may be telling you she hates it.  Good luck and hang in there!
