Question
Hi- we have a 8 mo. minature dapple doxie. When we took her for spading, I had blood drawn to make sure she was ok for the surgery.  She came back with slightly elevated bio-acid scores.  Several tests later, antibiotics and several hundred dollars,no definate answer as to whats going on. Vet is recommending the Hills Science Prescription L/D diet. Our beloved pet won't touch the stuff. She'd rather starve. My vet. is recommending the Hills Science K/D brand next.  Our puppy is symptom free except for the slight elevated bio acid scores. Does anyone know of another brand we could try?

Answer
My dogs will not those either.  Find out what the nutrients you need are - for example, 4% fat.  Then you can find a comparable food by looking at labels.  Stick with the high end and holistic foods such as Solid Gold, Wellness, etc.  Read the label and make sure there is no corn or animal by-products in the food.  That will tell you the quality.  I switched to a Natural Pet food that I can get in the grocery store and my dogs are doing really well on it - including my sickly old one.  His health has improved dramatically.
