dauchsands urinating during night

Question
I have 2- 6 y/o dauschands, who are a brother & sister. I am at wits end with their night urinations/accidents. They go in spurts of urinating on their dog bed at night.I have wasted a lot of money on dog beds and just plain frustrated with their behavior. I take them out 10-20 minutes before we go to bed but doesn't seem to matter.  During the day they are kept in a crate and haven't had an accident in many years. My issue is at night and just do not know how to break this bed urination. I wonder if their bed may be the trigger but just do not know. Any direction/help would be so appreciated.

Answer
It is hard to tell from this but you might consider getting them checked for a UTI.  If they go all day without wetting, then it is not likely.  If the dog bed has the smell then it may trigger it.  It could also be that they are unhappy about being in a crate all day - most dachshunds hate it - and letting you know OR it could be a fear that they do not feel when crated.  Try using puppy pads at night to see if they will use those.  Also if they do not do it all the time, see if you can figure what triggers it - storms, changes in the house, a particular and infrequent noise, windy noisy nights, etc.  You can also try putting a bed in their crate and if they do not urinate on it, place it outside at night for them to lay on then.  Have they always done this?  If not, something has caused it to start and it could be physical, emotional, or association.  Be creative and see what works for them.  Do they have a cover to sleep under?  Maybe they would like that so they feel more secure.  My doxies all like covers to get under.  I hope this helps.
