Question
We adopted Lucy, long haired red dapple,  2 1/2 years ago when she was 6 months.  Even though she is long hair, just her head and hind quarters have long hair.  Every time we went to have Lucy fixed the Vet pushed back the day because of signs of her coming into heat.  Finally, we had her fixed months ago.  My question is, why is her coat flat and looks dull?  We groom her every day, and feed her the proper food.  I have taken her to the Vet and I haven't got any answers.  Please tell me what I should be doing.

Thanks

Answer
It could be just genetics - I have seen long hairs like that and since she is a dapple, she may have coat issues.  What type of food do you feed?  The high end foods will help.  I have heard good things about Gold Seal.  I use Wellness.  These are not cheap foods but have flaxseed and other essentials for a good coat.  You might try that.  She will have a shiny coat after being on a good food.
