nutering an 11 yr old dachshund

I have an 11 yr old male dachshund that had not been neutered. We recently got a female mut that we had fixed. My male still trys to mount her.  Is he to old to have neutered? Are there health issues at this age?

You should check with your vet - he/she can determine if he/she can undergo surgery at this age and with his health status.  I will say that at his age, it is not likely to get rid of the problem all together.  Consistent discipline - telling NO and making him stop will help when you are around.  He may settle down after she has been around awhile.  Again, he might never stop it completely.  I have a male that was neutered as a puppy and he will try to hump others once in awhile but it has become less frequent.
