Question
I have a male miniature dapple(not double dapple)dachshund (8 weeks old) that has 1 blue eye & 1 brown eye. Do you know how much this could affect desirability in regards to breeding?

Answer
AKC standards it is considered a fault.  They want a dark eye, which you will not get in a dapple.  Whatever you do, you will need to do DNA testing on yours and the other dog before breeding - some can be or have dapple and you not know it and then you end up with a double.  Some breeders will lie and tell you that they have rare coat colors like dapple, pie, etc.  when they are not really rare and really are a sign of breeding for color rahter than for the preservation of the breed and standard characteristics. I have a miniature dapple wire haired and is a poor example of the breed but he is as cute as he can be and I think very handsome.  He was a stud but was rescued and I got him neutered immediately - the life of being a stud is not a pleasant and happy one for a pet.  He is a wonderful and loving pet.  Also, just to let you know, backyard breeders (those not recognized by the AKC and are not true breeders for the breed) will often say they are selling you a mini when you are really getting a tweenie.  Minis are not very common but tweenies are.  That is just for your FYI and you should know that if you consider breeding.  To be perfectly honest, no one should really breed unless they know the DNA, parentage, and health of the dogs involved.  Puppies are expensive if taken care of properly and the expense is yours for 8 weeks - they cannot be sold earlier (against the law in most states).  You make very little, if any money.  Please consider neutering him and letting him be a happy and loving pet.  Best whishes.
