Question
About a week ago I noticed a small bald spot on my 12 year old female dachshund's side.  It was about the size of a dime. I was petting her this morning and rubbed over that spot and a clump of hair came off.  Now it is about the size of a half dollar. She doesn't scratch.  She doesn't have fleas.  It's like that spot of her skin has just died.  It looks like her hair and skin come off together.  The skin underneath is a dark gray.  It doesn't seem to be hurting or itching her.  What could it possibly be and what can I do for her.  I also have a 11 year old male dachsund.  He doesn't seem to have the problem at all.

Answer
I would get your vet to look at it.  You can also try vitamin E on it and be sure to keep an eye on it.  Is her her skin discolored anywhere else or is it normal for her?  Are you sure she is not itching it or rubbing it?  Could she have gotten bruised in the area?  You should get a professional opinion so that it does not get worse.  It could be an allergy or something, but no sense in taking chances. Sounds like she is well loved and cared for!
