IS IT THAT IMPORTANT TO GET MY PUPPY NEUTERED? WHAT WILL  THIS DO FOR HIM IN THE LONG RUN?  THANKS

Male dogs that are neutered typically make better pets.  It prevents the development of prostate problems often seen in older dogs and therefore, testicular cancer  which a common cancer of older, intact male dogs.  It prevents him from breeding and producing puppies when there are thousands of homeless animals put to sleep each day and yes, that includes unwanted dachshunds.  A neutered male is less likely to be aggressive to other male dogs, especially if he is neutered before 1 year old.  Unneutered males are more likely to wander off, often feel more stress, and are more frustrated.  It can reduce the risk of hormone-related diseases, and certain types of other cancers.  So is it important?  It is for your pet.  Hope that helps.
