Question
i have a 9 week old dachshund male, and his overbite is about an inch...
i took him to the vet, and the vet was shocked that he was completely healty, good weight, height, length..
he can't open his mouth much, but he is capable of eating hard food and drinking water.
the vet told me that due to his jaw, he will have respirarty problems such as being suspetable to getting ammonia and sinus infections more so then a regular dog. he sometimes made it seem serious and then at other times made it seem like it wasn't that big of a deal.
my cocern is how serious is it....
because of his jaw, he snorts which the vet said is caused by the cartalidge, and the other parts in his esaphogas being arranged a bit differently then in a normal dogs just because of his jaw line.
is it inhumane to keep him, even though he doesn't seem to be suffering?
he eats, drinks, isn't dehydrated, is healthy in every aspect..plays, runs...doesn't snort bad while running or after running, just here and there, and mostly when hes sleeping.
Any advice is apprecaited at this point. i want to keep him..and think that i can give him a good, fun, loveing life. but i want whats in his best interest.

Answer
At this point he is not having issues.  He might be a dental surgery candidate.  I would take him to a dental vet.  That way you will know what the options are, what any issues might be, etc.  I had a dog with a receding jaw and he lived to be older but each one is different.  My best advice is a specialist.
