Shy American bulldog puppy

Question
I just got a 15 wk old american bulldog puppy Friday 8/25. He lived outside in a kennel with his siblings and he now lives in the house. He seems to be shy and withdrawn and doesn't want to walk on a leash. He is a little less shy outside but now much. What should I do? Will this get better?

Answer
Puppies go through a normal "fear period" at 16 weeks of age.  For him to come out of a kennel into a home at this age is very stressful for him.

Take a week to be very kind to him and let him get settled in.  Then see if you can find an obedience class where you can get him out around other dogs and socialize him with as many people and different situations as possible.

His behavior will definitely get better, but you have to be very consistent and patient with him at this time.
