My 2 week old english bulldogs

Question
QUESTION: My puppies are 2 weeks old. My 2 year old female just gave birth. This is our first time caring for newborns. And I had a couple of questions. First of all we were told to give them esbilac 5 cc's every 2 hours. We gave them the 5 cc's for the 1st week and noticed that they still seemed hungry so we added another 3 cc's totaling 8 cc's. Did we do the right thing? Also when should we start increasing the cc's and how often? Also after each feeding we are supposed to stimulate their privates so they can go pee and poo, with a warm paper towel or cotton ball. I have been doing that but their rectums look red. Do I rub their rectum until they poo or do I just rub it a little and just put them back in their bed?? Also when can I give them their first bath? Please help. Thank You

ANSWER: Why aren't they nursing from the mother? You shouldn't have to hand feed them at all unless she's not caring for them or doesn't have any milk.

You need to find someone locally who can help you with this. I can't believe you went into this with no knowledge whatsoever. I can't help you long distance.

And NO BATHS until they are at least 6 weeks old. Put vaseline on their butts and yes, you have to stimulate them until they "poo".

QUESTION: The mother did not have any milk. We bought the mother as an adult and she was bred to an english bulldog, but the owner could not care for them anymore due to sickness. That is why we got into it. We got some help with the previous owner but he past away and now there is really no one who can help us.  I will look for someone locally to help us. Thank You for the vaseline tip.
ANSWER: Well, if you've gotten them this far you're doing something right. Are you tube feeding them or bottle feeding? They should be eating every four hours at this age but should be able to miss one feeding during the night so you can get some sleep. You need a scale to keep track of their weight to make sure they're gaining. That's the only way you can be sure you're feeding them enough unless you have someone knowledgable to help you. If you over feed them, they will aspirate the formula and die.  Better to under feed a very little. You're really out on a limb.  I wish there was more I could do.

QUESTION: I'am bottle feedng them. Like I said before they are getting 8 cc's every 3 hours. As of today I will give them every 4 hours and miss one feeding at night. Are the 8 cc's enough or should i give them more???
Thank You, you have been a big help. By the way how much weight should they be gaining?

Answer
Go to this web site. It has all the info you need. Ignore the previous message where I gave you the correct feeding amounts. I figured it out wrong and this chart will give you the correct feeding requirements.  Good luck.
