Pink Skin

Question
My female english bulldog puppy (15 weeks old) is very healthy and just received a great bill of health from the vet. She isn't exhibiting any discomfort, but I have noticed within the past few days that the skin around her chin and cheeks is getting pink. I'm not sure if this is normal for the breed or her age, but I want to make sure that there isn't a skin infection in the works. She is getting mild tear stains and the breeder recommended giving her one TUMS tablet a day with food to regulate her pH levels. Have you heard of this before and if so, would this help with treating the pink skin (if that is even a problem to begin with)? Thanks so much for your advice.

Answer
The pink skin may be nothing at all. If it gets itchy, or the hair starts to fall out, then have a vet take a look.

I don't care for the idea of giving a puppy a TUMS a day at such a young age. What you can do is put vinegar in her drinking water at the rate of 1 oz per quart. This will also regular her pH. It only works as long as you continue and I think long term use of TUMS isn't a good idea.
