Initiating free feed for 4 mo old english bulldog

Question
I tried the whole bit about filling her bowl with more food than she could possibly eat, her bowl is not but so big, and allowing her to eat as much as she wanted for 5 minutes.  Well, she ate the ENTIRE bowl in 3 min.  I measured it out and it was 2.5 cups of food.  I was tempted to refill her bowl and allow her to continue eating until 5 min. was up, but I seriously believe she would have consumed whatever was in her bowl until it was completely gone.  She was already bloated enough.  Should I keep trying, or just assume that free feeding is not for her?  Thank you for your advice.

Answer
This is typically how puppies first react to the bonanza of food available to them. The reality is 2.5 cups of food isn't a lot for a 4 month old puppy to eat at one time.

Use a bowl or pan that will hold about 6-8 cups. The whole point is to give her enough so that she can't finish it all and so she will not wolf down her food all at once.

If you're worried about her, just stop diong it. I know it's scary until they get used to it but I don't know of one that's bloated or died yet. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen though.
