10 Week puppy Food issues

Question
Hi!
My husband and I have a 10 week old EBD puppy and have had him for 2
weeks.  The breeder was feeding him science diet and we wanted to
switch him to Wellness Super5 Puppy.  We made the switch gradually
over the course of about five days but his stools are becoming looser
and looser.  We added pumpkin to the mix which help firm things up a
bit but we don't want to have supplement his diet constantly.  We live
in an apartment and it is difficult to pick up the feces from the
grass outside because it is so soft. We were wondering if 2 weeks was
enough time to adjust to the Wellness??? Should we give it more time
or we were thinking of switching to Innova Puppy.  We know you feed
much less of that food and thought it would help with the soft stool
issues.  (He does not have any parasites as he has had a fecal sample
tested by the vet and has been dewormed) Should we give him more time
to adjust to the Wellness and the new environment or switch to
Innova?  (He seems very healthy and energetic, healthy coat and all
that...he is 11.5 pounds @ 10 weeks)

He is doing great with potty training, we are faithful to take him out
he goes right away outside, your advise to others about just letting a
puppy be a puppy and not having too high of expectations beyond his
developmental level really helped.  My husband and I wake up
and take him out at 3am and at 5 30.  He eats at 7am, 1pm and 6pm and
water gets taken up after dinner.  Your advise about puppy nipping was
helpful too.  He really does try to play with like we are his litter
mates!
Thanks for your time and expertise!

Answer
OK, first of all, try to adjust his schedule by an hour earlier so he doesn't eat after 5, no water after 6.

If you didn't have a smear done when you did the fecal exam, that might not be a bad idea just to rule out coccidia which would be causing the loose stools. If everything is negative, then it's the food.

I've heard this complaint from a lot of people with puppies who try Wellness. It's rich and seems to run right through them. Innova is great.  If all else is fine, you may as well change him over now and get it over with. Do it gradually and it's going to be messy for a while, but should level off once the change is complete.
