potty training crisis

Question
We just purchased a bulldog that is about 14 weeks old from a breeder. We were told that she had been somewhat crate trained but we think that she was left in there all day, being allowed to use the bathroom in there without being repremanded. I will stand outside with her for 15 minutes waiting for her to go to the bathroom with no result. The second we walk in the house she will get into her crate and use the bathroom there. It is so frustrating!!! I dont know what to do or how to break this. Please help!

Answer
Well, there are a couple of options. You can move the crate outside and take the tray out of it so she's basically on bare ground when she goes to the bathroom. Eventually you can remove the crate and she will get the scent of where she's been and that might encourage her to use the outside.

You can eliminate the crate entirely. Gate off a small area in your home and take her out frequently as you would a younger puppy. It's like starting from square one. Try to stick to a strict schedule as far as eating and going outside. Don't feed her after 5 in the evening and pick up any water dishes after 6. Take her out as late as possible.

This isn't an impossible situation but it will take a lot of patience and it may take weeks for this to turn around.  Also, remove anything from her crate as far as bedding goes, no towels, paper, nothing if you continue to use it.
