All Bulldogs are predisposed to HD and yes, it is mostly genetics. There are nutritional and environmental factors that contribute, but for the most part, that's they way they are made.

HD may never affect a Bulldog because their muscle mass holds them together. You may never see signs of it until advanced years. The key is keeping them in good weight and feed them a healthy diet.
