Question
i adopted a bulldog that was getting neglected. they told me she was at least partially deaf. she can hear some tones though such as if i clap in a hallway she can hear it. i also noticed she snorts awhole lot more then other bulldogs i've encountered. i was just curious if she could possibly have a respitory problem that's affecting her hearing? is that common amongst bulldogs? and if she is partially deaf, is there something i can do to help her regain her hearing (i.e. surgery, hearing aid, etc)

Answer
Hi javier:  Your new bulldog could have had many many ear infections and that is how she lost the hearing.  Excessive snorting can mean another ear infection... Have the vet check her out and make sure she is up-to-date on all her shots.

Bulldogs have soft palates and are prone to snorting anyway.  Also, your kid could have allergies to food or the Environment.  So many bulldogs have seasonal environmental allergies... ( dust, grass, pollens, trees.... they can even be allergic to CATS..)

A good check up with the VET is your first step.

Next, the clapping works.  She will listen for the type of tone.  Just work with her that way.  She will also feel vibrations such as stomping on your foot a few times.

A dog with a hearing problem can  be a good watch dog for you.  You would be amazed at what they can feel with the vibrations.
