Swollen Bottom Lip

Question
Hi Becky. Its Danielle again.  I'm writing to you again because my cat Angel who had her Kittens a week ago has a swollen bottom lip. I noticed it yesterday and I was wondering if it could be from licking her babies a lot or if it could be an allergic reaction to something.  Any other possibilities? I can't get the mama and babies to the vet to get checked out until the beginning of next month so in the mmeantime , I thought I would ask you about it.  I love my cat so much I don't want anything to be wrong with her....especially now that she has babies.
Oh and by the way the kitties are eating very good...they are getting so big already and their eyes are all open!!!!!  And we named them for now....Liza (the calico and first born)   Bugsy (grey and white &second born)  Patches (white with blondish spots third born)  And last but not least  Garfield (all medium brown color....but looks like he might be striped with a little bit of white!!!)  They are just so adorable and so much fun to watch. Everything else seems to be going well.   Well thanks again.

Answer
Hi Danielle,

They sound adorable and I'm sure Angel is being a perfect mother!!  I really don't know what the swollen lip could be.  I wouldn't worry about it unless it prevents her from eating or taking care of the kittens.  A small spider may have bitten her. Cats are bad about chasing them, then they get bitten.  In summertime, this happens with bees.  As I said, I wouldn't worry unless she acts sick or doesn't take care of the kittens.  I bet you are having a ball with those little cuties!

God Bless,
Becky
