Question
Barbara,
We have a 10 yr. old female Abyssinian and a 4 yr. old male Siamese/Blue Lynx mix. They have been together since we brought the Siamese home as a kitten and get along fine. They have always shared a litter box.
The problem is that our daughter moved back home and brought a 2 yr. old male Maine Coon with her. We love him, but he chases the Aby, who is tiny compared to him. She can get away and he's not really mean, we think he's just playing. He doesn't try to bite her or anything, just chases her. She is declawed and has no front teeth due to gingivitis. He has not been declawed, but doesn't use his claws at all except to climb his large cat tree. But lately, he's been chasing her out of the utility room in the basement so she can't use her litter box to poop and she's started pooping in our carpeted living room in the basement. The other problem is that her poop is not firm, but very soft so we have to wait for it to completely dry up before we can clean it up. She's also had blood in her stool, but the vet said it's caused from stress. We have 2 litter boxes placed on opposite walls of the utility room hoping the Maine Coon would leave her alone, to no avail. We wondered if moving her litter box to a different location would work. She and our Siamese use a litter box with clumping litter and the Maine Coon uses one with Feline Pine. Should we just get a 3rd litter box for her?
Where should we put it? In the living room?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Answer
Put yourself in the position of the little cat. She feels like her home has been invaded by this obnoxious, big cat.  She has no peace anymore. She is either having problems getting to use her her litter box in private, or she is punishing you for bring this big galoot in to harass her.
Get her a litter box with a roof and show it to her. Put it in a private, quiet corner where she can have a little peace while eliminating. Maybe she will decide that it is better than using the carpet.
Make sure that you clean and deodorize the spots which were dirtied very well so that no one will use them for a toilet again.

Good luck,
Barb
