Question
I have a 2 yr old female. She has had 2 perfect, beautiful liters. Matter of fact I have all of them. I have a total of 9 cats. I gave 3 up for adoption. Some adults some babies. But they are all hers. Except the dad. Well mom just had her 3rd liter. It is from the same father as her other children, This liter is 12 days old. 3 days ago I went in my closet and found one dead, now this morning another one. It is as if they passed away in their sleep. I do not understand why at the age of 12 days the babies  are dying. I fall in love with them the moment they are born. The mom makes me stay with her through each birth. We are all very close. They are my children, I am having a very hard time understanding this. She does not have any deseases. The babies are eating and growing. Her birth area is in my walk in closet, Clean and sterilized. I do not let any of the other cats near them. She has 3 males who are 1 yr old and 3 kitten who are only 5 months. Each time I try and get her fixed she's preganent again, I am really scared that she will lose more. I can tell that she knows that she lossed her babies. I can see it in her eyes,I know my cats mannerisms and I know that she is sad.  Have you ever heard of this happening? I know that new borns up to age 5 days is normal but at the age of 12 days and they seam to be healthy, I just don't get this. I am tired of crying. It hurts so much. Some people do not understand that your pet is really your family member and it hurts just as bad. I feel useless. Do you have any idea what could be happening?

Answer
Hi Shawna,

I am so sorry for your losses, there really are no words I can say to make things better, but I do feel your pain.

It is hard to say what has happened to these wee ones, but I am sure it is nothing you or the mother cat has done- it sounds like you've provided a loving, safe environment.

I would suggest taking kitty to the vet- either to get her fixed or to see if the vet can find anything wrong health wise.

I'm sorry I can't help more, I do understand your pain. These kittens have a very special place in your heart, and I hope you can take comfort in the kittens that are with you- I'm sure they feel your love every single day.

Best wishes to you.
