Question
Our cat just had kittens last night.  She keeps trying to hurt one kitten.  We are
pretty sure she is trying to kill it.  Why is she doing this and is there anything we
can do?

Answer
Hi Debbie, It is most likely that there is something wrong with this kitten, and she is trying to kill it or get it out of her nest and away from her 'healthy' babies.  The most common thing is that the kitten is cold. Can you warm it up and get some corn syrup or other sugar syrup into it?? It will really need some sugar to be able to nurse and keep its' body temperature up. New born kittens go downhill very quickly and so you need to interject right away. Also stimulate it to urinate right away also. They cannot go on their own and if they are left they will die quickly.
If you search online for 'raising orphan kittens" you will find a lot of helpful advice. Teresa
