Cat is Urinating

Question
Hello,

I hope you can help, because I am getting very frustrated with my cat.  She is 3 year old spayed orange tabby, who has been urinating on cement floors in the same general areas in different homes.  The litterboxes are cleaned daily and can be found through out the home.  Food and water is always available and blinds are kept open so that she can see out.  She always goes back to the same place or near the same place, even after cleaned with products and baking soda is sprinkled on the area.  I've tried to put tape and foil down on the area which stops her for a time, but the minute it's removed she starts again.  She isn't spraying...she is emptying her entire bladder and only in this specific area of the house.  I've tried spraying lemon juice and laying down lemon slices.  Locking her in a room with food and litter for a week..the minute she's out she goes to urinate in that same spot.  How can I cure this??  Please HELP ME

Answer
Kim,

It may be inconvenient, but I would put a litterbox in the area where she is going. Or put a puppy pee-pad on top of where she is going. Some cats do NOT like the feel of litter under their feet and the refuse to use a litterbox.

You may want to have her checked for a urinary tract infection or urinary crystals. Both are painful when they pee and they associate that pain with the litterbox and go elsewhere.

Here are some links that should be helpful also regarding improper elimination:

AND

Here is a 'receipe' for cat urine odor removal:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of liquid soap

(3% hydrogen peroxide can be bought at most grocery and drug stores in pint and quart bottles).

Gently mix all ingredients in a non-metal container. Do not mix or shake vigorously!

The mixture is best used when fresh but can be stored. Do not keep mixture in an airtight container.  Have a VERY loose lid as baking soda and hydrogen peroxide when mixed together will release oxygen and an airtight container will explode. You can mix and keep it in large spray bottle (Home Depot, etc.) but a plastic liter or 2-liter soda bottle works just a well.

Always test for color-fastness. Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent in stronger concentrations and can lighten materials that are not color-fast.

Removing urine from concrete:

Spray or mop the area soiled with the cat urine. Saturate it completely and let the area dry for 2-3 days. Concrete and cement are very porous and take a long time to dry. You must let the concrete or cement dry completely before you reapply the recipe. This usually has to done at least 3 or more times before the urine odor is gone.

I hope this is helpful.
