Shaking? Or is it from her purr?

Question

'Prada' Under our bed
We just adopted a Himalayan Siamese kitten, she is 9 weeks old, and yesterday was her first day away from the one sibling left, 3 children and her mother.
She has somewhat come out of hiding, and will cuddle with James and I, but we've noticed that she shakes occasionally. Nothing startling, but more of a vibration. We have heard her purr ( which is a delightful sound ), but she sometimes vibrates as though she's purring, or her head will bob up and down like shes trying to look over something.
As new kitten owners, this is confusing for us, and difficult not to feel uneasy.

Answer
Desiree & James,

What a cute baby! I'm not sure that the breed history that you've been given is entirely accurate based on her appearance - for photos of siamese and himalayan cats check out the Canadian Cat Association website at www.ccc-afc.com to see why I have my doubts. Prada looks more like a Russian Blue or a simple grey domestic shorthair to me.

My recommendation based on the symptoms that you're describing would be to have Prada assessed by your family veterinarian ASAP just to ensure that she doesn't have some sort of neurological condition such as distemper neuropathy (which can manifest in milder cases as a head bobbing). It's always a good idea to have your new addition examined by a veterinarian promptly anyways, but do be aware that you'll need to keep her isolated from other cats in the home for at least 10 days, preferably 2 weeks, just in case she does have some sort of contagious infection that hasn't shown symptoms yet. If you have any further cat related questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me again - I'm happy to help in any way that I can.
